Donate to the Hurricane Ike Recovery Fund
United Ways of Texas (UWT) is uniquely positioned as a statewide association of local United Way (UW) organizations to implement a statewide HURRICANE IKE RECOVERY FUND that will ensure the proper assessment, recovery, and restoration of communities impacted either directly or indirectly by Hurricane Ike. 100% of funds will go directly to local United Ways in impacted areas.
During times of crisis and disaster, UWT’s top priority is the safety of its members. Once UWT confirms personal safety, it begins a steadfast approach to help member UWs assess unmet needs and address long-term considerations for the recovery and restoration of their communities. It is essential that UWT protects the vitality of local UWs and their community partners, as these are the groups who will be the first line of defense for long term recovery. In addition to those undergoing recovery and restoration operations, many of UWT’s members served as hosting communities to thousands of evacuees. Serving evacuees during and after a disaster depletes resources for local nonprofits to serve those that are in greatest need in their communities throughout the year.
Local United Ways and their community partners provide support to communities and families each and every day, and during times of crisis and disaster these needs only increase. A local UW and their partners can expect requests for the following:
COMMUNITY CARE NEEDS
Basic Needs: food, clothing, shelter, personal care items, formula/diapers
Financial Assistance: rent, bills, medicine, fuel, basic needs, relocation
Referral Services: referral assistance, basic needs, counseling, child care
Home/Office Damage: repairs, rebuilding
Recovery: grief counseling, child care, workforce solutions
Restoration: on-going financial assistance and education, counseling, vouchers
What You Can Do
Only days after Hurricane Ike made landfall on the Texas Coast, UWT and its members are still assessing damage, but are looking ahead with an experienced eye to what lies ahead. UWT is asking for financial support to ensure that its members in impacted communities are not left to ensure the recovery and restoration of Texas families and their communities alone, but are able to leverage statewide partners to conduct these critical operations in their communities. 100% of contributions will be distributed to local United Ways and your contribution to UWT will do much more than help a local UW; it will impact the lives of an entire community.
As a UWT partner you will be given full rights to press and media coverage of the contribution with any additional support from UWT communications staff solicited. UWT is willing to work with you to design custom partner packages for your organization.
